Coffee at the weekends

One of my favourite things to do at the weekends is to go out for coffee with friends and I always drink "Ca phe sua da" (coffee with condensed milk and ice).
In Vietnam, we use filters to make coffee because the coffee is very strong and  that is the way we like to drink it. There are four stages to make good coffee. First, we put condensed milk into a cup and place the cup under the coffee filter. Next, we put about two spoons of coffee into the coffee filter and then pour hot water inside the coffee filter. Now it's the time for you just to watch the coffee dripping from the coffe filtter  into the cup, which is a part I like best.

After the coffee stops dripping we will see two layers, condensed milk on the bottom and coffee on the top. We stir the coffee and milk together, now in the cup you will see a brown good smelling coffee. The last step is to pour the coffee into a cup with ice cubes..... I can't wait to drink it and enjoy.

What will my life be without coffee?

  1. In New Zealand we drink instant coffee, with water and milk or coffee from a plunger which is a nicer flavoured coffee than instant coffee. You can buy iced coffee, coffee with ice cubes. However I have never had condensed milk in my coffee. The condensed milk must make the coffee quite sweet, do you like sweet drinks? Does the condensed milk also make the coffee a thicker liquid to drink?

  2. No, I don't like sweet drink. It should be a litle bit bitter, that's the way coffee is. In Vietnam we also have instant coffee but I think it just for poeple have no time. I mysel drink instant coffee sometime but I always prefer "real coffee".
I don't think condensed milk makes coffee thicker, it's just flavour.

  3. I wonder if what you call condensed milk is the same as ours? Ours is very very sweet. As a kid I used to suck it straight from the can, but you could only swallow a few mouthful, because it is very sweet.

What a great drink. I don't really drink coffee but you make it sound very refreshing. Do you eat biscuits with your coffee?
